Datuk Dr Balwinder Singh MBBS, MS (ORL-HNS), Rhinology (RACS) – Head Of Department and Consultant Surgeon – 

He has been practicing as an ENT surgeon for the past 20 years graduating from University of Malaya with Masters in ORL-HNS in 1998. He has worked in various government hospitals and has been heading the Dept. of ORL-HNS of Putrajaya Hospital since 2001.He is experienced senior consultant having been actively performing ENT surgeries for almost 25 years. In addition to being able to treat and operate normal ENT disease , he is also subspecialised in Rhinology as well as having vast experience in treating Sleep Apnea both medically and surgically. He is also a well known Rhinpoplasty surgeon with more than a decade of experience in doing cosmetic and functional plastic surgery of the nose.

He is well known among the ENT fraternity as Key Opinion Leader in the field of Rhinology and Sleep Medicne with special skills in tackling complicated nasal and sinus surgery as well as rhinoplasty making his department a referral center for such cases.

Rhinology

He had done his Fellowship in Rhinology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide in 2005 and is certified by the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. In addition to the routine Sinus surgeries, he has performed a significant number of major cancer cases of the nose and parabasal sinuses endoscopically eg Adenocarcinoma of the maxilla extending to ethmoids and nasopharynx, Squamous cell carcinoma involving ethmoid and frontal sinus, Esthesioblastoma of the ethmoid and maxilla, Squamous cell cancer of nasal cavity extending to brain (with neuro team), recurrent NPC for salvage surgery (nasopharyngectomy), referred cases which have had multiple FESS done , referred cases of recurrence post excision of inverted papilloma etc. 

He is the chairperson of Rhinology training and has been involved in the training of ENT specialist to become Rhinology sub-specialists since 2008. He has trained 15 such specialists who are practicing all over Malaysia.

Rhinoplasty (Cosmetic Surgery of the Nose aka Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty is well known to be the most difficult aspect of plastic surgery which is the reason why it takes years to master the art. He has been doing rhinoplasty for the past decade and given talks at national level on rhinoplasty. He has built a reputation for doing rhinoplasty and has difficult cases referred to him eg complex cases of nasal deformities as well as done revision rhinoplasty for patients who are not happy with their rhinoplasty done elsewhere. 

Sleep Related Breathing Disorders

He also has a special interest in Sleep Disordered Breathing having trained at Flinders University Hospital in Adelaide and is involved in the training of specialists as well as medical staff in this field. He has been conducting the National Putrajaya Sleep Disordered Breathing workshop every two years for the past decade to train specialists and paramedical staff who require training in this niche but important medical field (photo link). He has also been invited overseas to speak on Obstructive Sleep Apnea. He is very well known in the field of sleep disordered breathing resulting in collaborating cutting edge research with USA in seeking new alternatives to treating obstructive sleep apnea.
