It enables us to have a much better idea of where the blockage is in a patient suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea and thus enabling us to target our surgery at the problematic area. It is often the case that the blockage is at multiple area or what is known in medical terms multi-level obstruction eg nose(bent spetum) mouth (big tongue or tonsils) and throat (floppy epiglottis or normal sized but floppy tongue).
By doing a DISE, we are ensuring that we do not miss out any non apparent causes of obstruction which can be missed in a clinic. We thus ensure that the patient gets the maximum out of the sleep surgery and also a very high chance of cure.
